Lion dancing is an integral part of Chinese culture. It has
been the belief that the performance of a Lion Dance will
chase away evil spirits, bringing forth luck and prosperity
to the establishment, couple or individual.
According to an ancient legend, a Chinese emperor once dreamed that a strange looking animal resembling
a lion saved his life. Since then, the lion has become
a symbol of good luck throughout China.
We at the Arizona Martial Arts Lion Dance
Association will perform the traditional Lion
Dance. Our goal is to bring happiness,
luck and prosperity with
every performance!
Every lion dance team must do movements depending on their teacher’s instruction.
However there must always be the same core moves in a traditional lion dance routine:
Humbleness and
good luck begins
& ends all
Lion Dances.
Showing the
lion’s pride and curiosity to all of
its surroundings.
Showing
the lion’s
playfulness
with people
or objects.
Showing the
lion’s attentive
and inquisitive
nature to it’s surroundings.
Eating of the Green. The finale of the
good-luck ceremony. The lion picks up
the head of lettuce or Bok Choy then
extracts the red envelope with money
inside. Tthe lion then spits out the
remaining pieces of green, spreading
the good fortune to the audience.
